Russell Cycles Established
Russell Cycles is established by Fred "Nutty" Russell, a highly regarded amateur racing cyclist, on Stafford Street in Walsall. Fred was a longstanding member of the Walsall Roads Cycling Club
1949
The F R Russell Lightweight
Introduction of the F R Russell lightweight cycle, a notable contribution by Fred Russell to the cycling industry.
1960s
Gordon Joins The Team
Fred's son Gordon joined the Russell Cycles team in the 1960s. Gordon already had an impressive cycling career, having won the half mile sprint in the track meeting of the Isle of Man international cycling week in 1963.
1969
Gordon Cycles UP Church Hill
By 1969, Gordon was well known for impressive stunts, including cycling while reading a newspaper and cycling while blindfolded. In 1969, Gordon famously cycled UP the Church Hill steps in Walsall, a flight of 62 steep stone steps.
1990s
Gordon Takes Over Full Time
Following Fred's death in the early 1990s, Gordon took over the running of the shop full time, continuing the heritage of Russell Cycles into it's 6th decade.
